Performing with Danni Barnes

Danni is one of the great Australian Music Theatre stars. She’s appeared in many shows including Beauty and the Beast, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Sweet Charity. Darryl and Danni last worked together opposite Sarah Brightman in the Australasian tour of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Here they are pictured after performing ‘The Prayer’ as part of the NSW Parliamentary Building launch. Danni has performed a number of times with ‘The Leading Men’ when clients have chosen the ‘with Leading Lady’ option.

Franklins Awards

Julie Conway Events produced an extraordinary and eye catching event with a ‘Phantom of the Opera’ theme. They also took advantage of our ‘Guest Leading Lady’ option where we invited Australian Musical starlet Danielle Barnes to join us. Darryl and Danielle opened the show with the title track from ‘Phantom’ and we were able to enhance the evening’s theme with our vast Music Theatre experience. Star City was the venue for this annual Franklins awards night.

NAFDA Awards

This was a classic ‘Leading Men’ show where we provided the perfect break in a night heavily geared to giving out awards. This venue was the Marriott Hotel Gold Coast and was booked through Speakers Australia. A great crowd and good spirit ensured another memorable show.

PWC dinner, Melbourne

‘The Leading Men’ are mostly booked for large events but every now and then we get to perform in very intimate settings like the Pearl restaurant in Melbourne this time for a small select group of clients of Price Waterhouse Coopers. We were literally able to sit amongst the guests as we took them on our journey and as is often the case we were invited to stay on and meet them all after the show. The show was booked through Empire Touring.

'The Leading Men' conquer all States!

We needed to perform in Tasmania to say we’ve played all States so when Lynn Whelan from Lynn Whelan Events booked us to perform for a Victorian Rotary Conference Gala dinner in Hobart we knew we’d done it. A huge and beautifully themed event at the Grand Chancellor Hotel was the setting for a great show where the audience sang along to most of the numbers and roared with laughter and appreciation at the ‘Il Divo' rock medley.

This has become one of Sydney’s most prestigious events with a guest list of the who’s who in Sydney sporting and entertainment celebrities. The 2009 event held at the Randwick AJC included the likes of Steve Waugh, Glenn McGrath and Jack Thompson to name a few. The recipient of the award was Basil Sellers AM and we were thrilled to have been asked to perform.

“THE LEADING MEN” GIVE BACK

The Leading Men are continually asked to perform for a large number of charities and fundraisers and they are always delighted to be involved. Highlights this year include a return performance for the Assisi Children’s Hospice Fundraiser in Singapore.

Raising much needed funds for Australia’s homeless, “The Leading Men” performed at The Oasis Ball at Star City, Sydney. Most recently “The Leading Men” were asked to perform at the annual “Sir Roden Cutler Medal Dinner” at The AJC Pavilion, Royal Randwick.

The Sir Roden Cutler Medal is awarded annually to a person in the community who is deemed to have made an outstanding contribution to charity. This year’s recipient was Mr Basil Sellers AM.

WHAT HAVE THE LEADING MEN BEEN STARRING IN LATELY?

People may not realize it, but the current heart-throb and star of Channel Nine’s popular drama “Sea Patrol” Commanding Officer Mike Flynn is none other than Ian Stenlake – an original member of “The Leading Men”. Ian is flat out filming the fourth series of “Sea Patrol” and recently continued his on-screen chemistry with “Sea Patrol” co-star Lisa McCune hamming it up together in the Sydney season of “Guys and Dolls”.

When he is not performing with “The Leading Men”, Rodney Dobson can be seen starring as Mr Dillamond in “Wicked” at the Capitol Theatre, Sydney.

“Leading Man” Alex Lewis has just completed the Australasian tour of “Phantom of the Opera” playing “Raoul”alongside theatre great Anthony Warlow.

THE SWANS HONOUR THE LADIES IN SYDNEY

The Sydney Swans Annual Ladies Lunch is traditionally a glamorous affair with the girls being treated to free manicures, massages and Moet. This year’s event went one better as guests were also entertained by Sydney’s hottest new act “The Leading Men”. The ballroom at Star City Casino was overflowing with Mothers’, wives and daughter’s including high-profile fans Kylie Gillies, Melissa Doyle and Deborah Hutton.

The Sydney Swans is a club that prides itself on treating women very well and for this reason, event manager Marc Christowski of Rock Circuit Promotions looked no further than “The Leading Men” when choosing an act that would keep 500 women on the edge of their seats! “The Leading Men were perfect for this event because they are sophisticated, incredibly talented and they look really good – the ladies couldn’t get enough of them. Their operatic version of Barnesy’s “Working Class Man” and “Up there Cazaly” were true show stoppers!”

So enamoured were The Swannies with “The Leading Men” that they engaged them on the spot to perform at The Swan’s Hall of Fame dinner at Crown Palladium a month later

LEADING MEN AND “WICKED’S” LEADING LADY!

As if the line up of the hottest new corporate entertainment sensation “The Leading Men” wasn’t star-studded enough, when asked to perform at a high rollers dinner at Crown Palladium, Melbourne, the client chose our “Leading Men with a Leading Lady” show option. Currently starring in the Broadway smash hit “Wicked”, Lucy Durak plays “Glinda” the much loved “Good Witch of the North”.

“Having a leading lady in our line-up is exciting” said the show’s creator Darryl Lovegrove “because it brings a totally different energy. As well as joining us in singing “Love changes Everything” and performing her own solo, Lucy also joined us all for “All I ask of you” from “Phantom of the Opera” which was a major highlight of the show and completely brought the house down”. Lucy is currently starring in the Sydney season of “Wicked” at the Capitol Theatre. For information and costs regarding including a “Leading Lady” for your next event, please contact our office.
